so many calls from shelters and other groups that assist in
contacted about 3 German Shepherd Puppies. They were eight weeks
old and about to be euthanized in a shelter in Georgia. All
three pups were boys. Thanks to one of our wonderful Angels (He
Loves GSD's) we consigned to rescue and transport these pups to
The plan was
to meet the Georgia transport at a local
Vets office. That way we could get the pups right in for a check
supposed to meet the at 4:00pm.
Short they did not arrive until 10:00 that night. We should have
run but what would have happened to the puppies?
The lady got
out of the van and said "That's yours over there throwing up!
Don't worry about it - I'm sure he is fine. She pulled out a
travel crate and handed me two pups that looked about 4 or 5
months old. I was sure she had the wrong pups. Remember we
expected three 8 week old babies. We asked about the third pup
and she said that they had sold him for $75.00 at a gas station.
We were horrified! We then asked for the pups interstate vet
paperwork. We were handed a sheet of loose leaf paper that said
the pups had had one vaccination the day before transport. This
is not the normal way Rescue works but we were trapped. If we
refused the pups we would be just as horrible and the pups would
be the ones to suffer. We took the boys home and carefully
quarantined them overnight. In the morning Dr. Larkins confirmed
our worst fears. The pups had Parvovirus.
The pups were
hospitalized and survived. Imagine our surprise when we found
out that Pita and his brother were both Girls. We
never found out what happened to the other pup. Thanks to
wonderful people like yourselves these two pups were saved and
found families to love them.
